These are fuzzy categories, inherited from the EAe. In volume 5, pages 580–590 a list of titles, ranks and functions can be found.This is a
value | definition |
---|---|
title | title is used when addressing a person, particularly an office holder (e.g. ʾabbā, wayzaro, daǧǧāzmačč, ʾabuna), and is to be used only within a persName, since names of offices and office holders can overlap. |
office | name of an office within an institution (e.g. Metropolitan, daǧǧāzmāčč, king, governor ), to be used only when not inside a persName, since names of offices and office holders can overlap |
function | is the task that a particular office holder is assigned to accomplish or a word referring to its duties which is not a title assigned by some authority |
rank | a position in a hierarchy, particularly military, e.g. colonel |
