Schema specification

type and subtype of the <ab> element are regulated for the use of this element in layout descriptions Beta maṣāḥǝft Guidelines

context rule report
tei:ab[ancestor::tei:layout] not(@type or @subtype)
ab in layout should always have a type and optionally a subtype
tei:ab[ancestor::tei:note] not(@type)
ab in note is used in listPlace for institutions and should always have a @type equal to 'history' or 'description'. @type equal to 'appellation' can be used to list a series of ways in which a place is called.
tei:ab[ancestor::tei:note][@type='appellation'] not(tei:list/tei:item)
an ab[@type='appellation'] must contain a list.
