Foundation story
The foundation date mentioned by the local oral tradition is 1295 year of mercy, but it is linked to the time of ʾaṣe Dāwit↗ . According to the same tradition, the founder was ʾabuna Māmās↗ (from the time of King Sayfa ʾArʿad↗ , r. 1344-1371 and his successor Dāwit I↗ ).
History
history: Gatar, formerly gadām. According to the Vita of saint Baṣalota Mikāʾel of Dabra Gol (ʾAmhārā), Baṣalota Mikāʾel was exiled to Gulo Makadā↗ and died at Gʷǝdgʷǝde, which seems to have been a name of the area around ʾAgarhǝse. Local tradition remembers him and confirms that his burial place is in the vicinity.
