He was an Alexandria↗ bishop between 328-373. He was a champion of Nicene Orthodoxy, which for most of his life was attacked by the supporters of Arianism. For his staunch attitude he was persecuted, being forced into exile five times during his episcopacy. He was also the Alexandria↗ metropolitan who consecrated Salāmā Kaśāte Bǝrhān as bishop of ʾAksum↗ . In Ethiopic literature, many works are attributed to him, most of which remain unpublished.

He died at Alexandria↗ in 373.
