General description
The β-recension of the Tārika Walda ʾAmid is the second translation of this work from Arabic into Gǝʿǝz. According to a list of Alexandrinian patriarchs at the end of the work, which was most probably extended by the translator(s) or early copyists up to Gabriel VII, the 95th patriarch of Alexandria, who held office during the reign of Lǝbna Dǝngǝl , i.e. in the period of 1525-1540 . It contains both the pre-Islamic and the Islamic parts, as well as the aforementioned list of patriarchs, which was added to Ibn al-ʿAmīd's original work after his death. According to , both Ethiopian recensions have been translated from the 'old recension' of the Arabic version of the Tārīḫ Ibn al-ʿAmīd, that is represented by the manuscript ANT from the Antonius Monastery in Egypt.
