General description
The Gize ṣalot is a version of the Maṣḥafa saʿātāt, a Church service made up of psalms, biblical readings and hymns. However, it is actually a genre of its own, a Gize ṣalot for the use of hermits (ባሕታዊያን፡) and recluses የዘጉ፡. Taft 1986 follow the Ethiopian distribution of the psalter.
The three other types of Maṣḥafa saʿātāt identified by Taft 1986 are:
Saʿātāt za-gǝbṣ: the Coptic Saʿātāt;
Maṣḥafa saʿātāt: the Saʿātāt of Giyorgis of Saglā↗ , which replaced the Saʿātāt za-gǝbṣ: and is presently in use in Ethiopia and Eritrea;
Maṣḥafa saʿātāt: a Saʿātāt that includes the entire Psalter in the daily pensum;
