Birth
He was born at Maḫdara Māryām↗ in 1917.
Period of Activity
He was the third Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tawāḥǝdo Church from 1976 to 1988. He attended the traditional church education in the monastery of Maḫdara Māryām↗ where he served as a diyāqon before he became a hermit. In 1933-34, he went to Walāmo↗ to the monastery of Dabra Mankǝrāt Takla Hāymānot↗ , where he took the monastic order. He was ordained priest under ʾabuna role: title Qerǝllos↗ in ʾAddis ʾAbabā↗ . Because of his calligraphic skills he was the scribe of the monastery. It is evident that most of the manuscripts kept at Dabra Mankǝrāt Takla Hāymānot↗ were copied by Takla Hāymānot. He was the most successful true religious leader of the church confronting the Marxist military regime.
Death
He died at ʾAddis ʾAbabā↗ in 1988.
