He was an eminent Polish Semitist and Ethiopisant. He was an all rounded scholar both in the field of Semitic studies and Ethiopian Studies. But he attained unequalled competence in the study of magical and medical texts, together with their parallel fields of plant names and of Old Amharic. He also achieved excellence in cataloguing manuscripts.
Death
He died at Manchester↗ in 1981.
