He was born in Ḥarar↗ in 1916.
Period of Activity
He was the oldest son of Ḫāyla Śǝllāse I↗ and ? Manan ʾAsfāw↗ . On 02-11-1930, he was crowned Heir to the Throne with the title of ?. Since then till 1974, he was a governor of Walloo↗ province. In 1932, ʾAsfā Wasan married ? Wälättä Ǝsraʾel Śǝyyum↗ of Tǝgrāy↗ by whom he had a daughter and whom he divorced after twelve years. In 1945, he married again, this time ? Mädfäriyaš Wärq Abbäbä↗ of Šawā↗ and Dāmot↗ , by whom he had three daughters and a son, Zarʾa Yāʿqob↗ . During the Italian occupation in the years 1936-41, ʾAsfā Wasan accompanied his father to exile in Great Britain↗ , where he studied political science at the university of Liverpool. After returning to Ethiopia↗ via the Sūdān↗ he took part in the fighting for Gondar↗ . During the abortive Coup d'état of 1960, he was nominated as a constitutional monarch. ʾAsfā Wasan played active role in the event, though the degree of his personal involvement is still not known. He read the proclamation issued by the rebels and took an important part in negotiations between supporters of the Emperor and the rebels suring the Coup. The Coup did not materially change ʾAsfā Wasan's relations with his father, as thez had been wellknown as being far from good before, as well as their different opinions concerning state matters.
Death
He died in Washington, D.C.↗ in 1997.
