He was an ancient king in the Horn of Africa whose rule extend to the shore of the Red Sea↗ towards the middle of the first century. He is mentioned in the Greek Periplus of the Eritrean Sea as the ruler of the port of ʾAdulis↗ . Zoskales appears to have been an important supplier of ivory, tortoise shell, and rhinoceros horn, mostly from the interior regions to Egypt↗ and Roman Empire↗ . His kingdom provided a market for various imports, among them clothing, glass, brass, copper, iron, as well as axes, adzes, knives, drinking vessels, Roman money, wine and olive oil.
