( ) “Now we start the book of the miracles of Saint ʾÄbunä Zärʿa Buruk, one of the children of Gerǝllos ጌርሎስ፡ the Martyr. He was murdered with a spear because of his right faith. [It was started] in year 7,197 of the creation of the world [= 1697], in the 281st year of mercy, in the year of Matthew, the Evangelist, Miyazya 1, at the ninth night, in the third hour of the day, in the 23rd year of King Iyasu [1682–1706]. Six years after he departed from this world which passes to the world that will not pass away, they started to write these miracles.”
