Period of Activity
He was an outstanding church scholar, administrator and the first Ethiopian Patriarch. He was ordained priest in 1914. In 1934, he was made ʾǝč̣č̣age role: title ↗ becoming the 59th abbot of Dabra Libānos↗ . During the Italian invasion he was in exile in Jerusalem↗ and later after the liberation he returned back to Ethiopia. In 1949, he was consecrated as a bishop in Alexandria↗ . In 1956, following the death of Qerǝllos↗ ʾabuna role: title Bāsǝlyos ↗ became the first Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tawāḥǝdo Church.
Death
He died at ʾAddis ʾAbabā↗ in 1970.
