He was one of the puppet rulers of the Zamana masāfǝnt. When ʾaṣe role: title Salomon II↗ was deposed, daǧǧāzmāč role: title Gugsā Mǝrč̣ā↗ and daǧǧāzmāč role: title ʾAlulā↗ made Dǝmeṭros↗ an emperor at Gondar↗ in 1799. Then, he immediately rewarded his benefactors by appointing them to important positions. He was deposed in March 1800 and succeeded by ʾaṣe role: title Takla Giyorgis I↗ . Dǝmeṭros↗ was restored in June 1800 and again deposed in 1801.
