He was known to the missionary of Samuel Gobat↗ and the travellers Pierre Victor Adolphe Ferret↗ and Joseph Germain Galinier↗ and particularly as correspondent of the French traveller and scholar Antoine d’Abbadie [d’Arrast]↗ . As a secretary at the court of Śahla Śǝllāse↗ in 1848 he wrote several letters to Samuel Gobat↗ , then Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem↗ , seeking his intervention on behalf of the Ethiopian monks in the Holy city. Between 1853 and 1854he wrote five letters to Antoine d’Abbadie [d’Arrast]↗ containing valuable news about contemporary Ethiopian Politics.
