Provenance
EMML 3213. The layout of the book and especially the colophon confirms that this manuscript is EMML 3213. The catalogue entry is published in volume 8, p. 157. The EMML project’s Bulletin of Ethiopian Manuscripts, IX:1 (January 1982), p. 15, indicates that the manuscript was shot in 1975. It is said to be from the church of Kassat Michael, Warana Basso, Shoa, in the region of Ankobarr. At the time of its microfilming it had none of the illuminations listed above

“This book belongs to Aminä Krestos, commissioned by his wealth, on year 7227 AM, (= 1734/5), second month, third day of month of Ḫǝdar, completed on Wednesday at noontime, on the year of Luke (the Evangelist), in the third year and twenty-first day of the reign of Iyyasu (II), son of Bäkkaffa, two months (lit. moons), eleven nights, 24 Mäṭqǝ‘ǝ and seven Abäqte. I, Joseph, your servant, sinner and wretch, wrote this so that you can read this book. Say for me one Our Father and one Hail Mary.”

The scribe regularly has to complete a line of text on another line. Much of the problem is addressed through the selection of an appropriate aspect ratio for the codex combined with an appropriate script size. But, where the line of text is still too long, the scribe completes the line of text above or below the end of the line (throughout).
