Palaeography
Hand 1
Script: Ethiopic
Mediocre
Ink: Black, red, crimson red.
Rubrication: Rubrication is executed in red and crimson in varying tones by different scribes. Nomina sacra; names of the donors; incipit of each commemorative notice; the word salām "salutation"; a few other words (e.g., fols. 4rc, 15rc, 21rb, 30ra, 43ra, 54ra, 61ra, 113vc); names of the months in the upper margin of some fols; elements of Ethiopic numerals; elements of the punctuation signs (e.g., nine dot asterisks separating the commemorative notices: fols. 14va, 40vc, 60va, 81vc, 104vc, 146rc; chains of red and black dots at the end of each month: e.g., fols. 30vc, 55rc, 82va, 115vc, 155vb, 181vc). Several lines or groups of lines on the page opening the commemorative notices for each month are rubricated: six red lines above in groups of two, alternating with black lines and two red lines below (fols. 2r, 31r, 55v, 83r, 116r, 156r).
Date: Second half of the 18th century.
Second half of the 18th century.Hand 2
Script: Ethiopic
Black inks of different tones and pens with differently shaped nibs were used for writing (e.g., pen with a broad nib on check the viewer75r ; with a thin nib on check the viewer147r ). The handwriting, though not necessarily belonging to more than one scribe, shows some changes (also on one and the same fol. e.g., 116r, 139r), cp. slightly sloping letters with big loops (check the viewer75r ), and more widely spaced letters elsewhere.Hand 3
Script: Ethiopic
The handwriting is similar to that attested in Ms. QS-008. It is very similar though not identical to the hand of the Synaxarion from the church of ʿArbaʿtu Ǝnsäsa, ʿArabay, Tämben. The names of the original donors are crudely replaced with the name Za-Manfas Qǝddus (most probably by hand that did the same in QS-008).Check for additional bibliography
