He succeeded his father King Wǝdǝm Raʿad in 1314. He led several military campaigns to expand the territory of the Christian kingdom but his largest campaign to Ifat↗ in 1332 is well recorded in his chronicle. He was succeeded by Sayfa ʾArʿad in 1344.
