Glory to Him since only His name shall one pray. In the year of the world 7000 and in the year of mercy 237, in the 15th ʾabäqte, in the 15th mäṭqǝʿ, in the 7th ṭǝntǝyom, on 7th time of the second month (?), before the beginning of the third month, from the 7th night of the new moon, on the 8th Ṭǝqǝmt, day of the new moon; in the 12th year of the reign of our King [vac.]; after the metropolitian ʾabuna ʾabbā Krǝstodolo passed away and died; (while) qaysa gabaz (is) deacon Walda Dāwit, a son of the priest Tǝnśāʾe Krǝstos. For the one who wrote it, Zawalda Māryām scribe , and for the one who caused it to be written, Walda Dāwit, for the one who will read it, for the one who will interpret it and for the one who will listen to its words, may their names be written on the golden pillar in the colour of justice when Christ the Master comes (again), with lightening and with earth-trembling. The completion (of the writing) was on the third day, in the 7th hour. The year of mercy 237 corresponds to 1661 A.D. (s. ChChron 167); but the year meant could be also 7237 (= 1745, s. ChChron 168) erroneously separated into two dates, according to two eras. The mentioned Metropolitan is most probably Krǝstodolo III who died in 1735. Therefore, "our King" probably refers to ʾIyasu II (r. 1730-1755), and the 12th year of his reign may be 1742. For ʾabäqte (epacte) see DillmLex 758; for ṭǝntǝyom (epactae solares) see DillmLex 1236, 1392.
