It was written in the 5500th year (from the beginning) of the world, in 1945 A.M., in the 22th year of the reign of the king of peace and justice, the beloved of God, our king Ḫāyla Śǝllāse, and (of) the patriarch ʾabbā Basǝlyos, and (of) our blessed bishop ʾabbā Yǝsḥaq; and in the 12th year after the kingdom of Rome was put to shame by our king Ḫāy(la) Śǝllāse, and (of) our good and righteous mäsfǝn daǧǧāzmāč Ḫāyla Māryām, son of the respected rās Sǝbḥāt, and (of) qesa gabaz ʾabuna Gabra Māryām. He who stole it or erased (its text) shall be excommunicated by the authority of Peter and Paul. Amen. [] Completed in the peace of God, to Him be praise and glory for ever. Amen. And in these days the kingdom of Ḥamasen was abolished and Ethiopia became one as before, for she has been one since the beginning of the world until King Mǝnilǝk II. Written in the main hand. The phrase “in the 12th year after the kingdom of Rome was put to shame“ refers to the victory over the fascist Italy in 1941 A.D. The year of the reign of Emperor Ḫāyla Śǝllāse is mistakenly indicated as ፩ወ፪. The colophone refers to the fact that in 1952 A.D. Eritrea was united with Ethiopia on a federal basis.
