He was born at Rome↗ in 1844.
Period of Activity
He was an outstanding Italian scholar, a Professor of Hebrew and Semetic languages at the University of Rome↗ from 1876-1919. From 1885-1919, he held the chair of History and Languages of Abyssinia in the same University. He was a brilliant Orientalist on account of his masterly knowledge of ancient Near Eastern languages and civilizations. In his later years, he devoted himself to Ethiopian Studies. Having fully mastered Gǝʿǝz and Amharic, he published Amharic grammar entitled Grammatica elementare della linqua amarica in 1952. He also edited and published several Amharic and Gǝʿǝz texts.
Death
He died at Rome↗ in 1935.
