The church might have existed at the site before the 17th cent. Mazgaba Śǝllāse↗ , the 17th-18th-cent. head of the monastery of Gunda Gunde↗ . The place of ʿAwādo↗ , where Mazgaba Śǝllāse↗ is said to have been born (also according to his Vita), is located nearby.
History
history: Dabr. The recent church building stands near the old one, which is intact. The old church of Gababinno Mikāʾel↗ is located in the vicinity (probably an old rock-hewn structure, but the books are recent). Gunda Gunde↗ is said to be not very far (some 5 hour distance walk).
