Palaeography
Hand 1
Script: Ethiopic
Hand a: poor. Hand b: poor.
Ink: Black, red
Rubrication: Nomina sacra; names of the archangels Gabrǝʾel and Mikāʾel (fols. 24ra, 25ra); elements of the punctuation signs and of the text dividers; elements of Ethiopic numerals. Several groups of lines on the incipit page of Texts I-1, I-4 (alternating with black lines); two initial lines in the incipit of Text I-5; two initial lines in the incipit of the subsections (miracles); first word of Text I-3.
Date: Second half of the 19th century
Second half of the 19th centuryHand 2
Script: Ethiopic
The handwriting is irregular and ranges from mediocre (e.g., check the viewer1r , 6v, 20r) to poor, hastily executed (e.g., check the viewer4r , 7v, 35r). These irregularities occur also within columns (e.g., check the viewer3v , 21v. 24vb). For these reasons, it cannot be excluded that several scribes were involved in writing (esp. see check the viewer9r ).Hand 3
Script: Ethiopic
Hand b: Texts I-4, I-5 and I-2b (quire II). The handwriting appears also irregular, more upright with thinner, more broadly spaced letters.Check for additional bibliography
