He is one of the most remarkable and venerated monatsic leaders and saints of the Coptic Church. He is also well known and venerated in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. He was born from the ecclesiastic family and at the age of 22 he joined a monastery. Later he became an abbot of the monastery of Wādī n-Naṭrūn↗ . He is well known in Ethiopia↗ as a fighter against the doctrine of Chalcedon.
