Birth
Gola↗ He was a son of Wäldä Mikaʾel Gudisa↗ and Tänaññä Wärq Śahlä Śǝllase↗ .
Period of Activity
He was invited to the court of Mǝnilǝk↗ in 1865. His first, common-law, wife gave birth to their son Yǝlma Mäkwännǝn↗ . In 1876, he married Yašimmabet ʾAli↗ , who gave birth to Tafari↗ . In 1876 Makʷannǝn Walda Mikāʾel became ? and in 1881 he joined a campaign against the Oromo↗ . After the conquest of Ḥarar↗ , he was awarded the rank of ? and became the governor of the region. In 1887 Makʷannǝn Walda Mikāʾel started the imperial expansion to the east and south of Ḥarar↗ and conquered the parts of ʾOgāden↗ , as well as parts of the territories of Gadabuursi↗ and ʿIssa↗ . Makʷannǝn Walda Mikāʾel had good relations with expatriates and lead Ethiopian missions abroad. In 1890 he participated in the Ethio-Italian debates, and in 1895-1896 in the Italian war. In 1902 he represented Mǝnilǝk↗ at the coronation of Edward VII↗ in London↗ .
Death
Qullǝbi Gäbrǝʾel↗ He died on his way to ʾAddis ʾAbabā↗ , where he travelled on the occasion of the visit of Ferdinando Martini↗ .
