He was the last puppet King of the Zamana Masāfǝnt on 29 August 1840 and he was deposed a year later because of his support for daǧǧāzmāč role: title Wǝbe Ḫayla Māryām in 1841. He was a de facto hostage of Emperor Tewodros II for 13 years and detained at Maqdalā↗ .
