Text: (fol. 127r ) ጸልዩ፡ በእንተ፡ ጽንዓ፡ ዛቲ፡ መካን፡ ወኵሉ፡ መካናት፡ እንተ፡ ይእቲ፡ ለአበዊነ፡ ቅዱሳን፡. . . . .ommission by ( column 2 ) ጸልዩ፡ በእንተ፡ ሕይወቱ፡ ወንብረቱ፡ ለአቡነ፡ ቅዱስ፡ ጳጳስነ፡ አባ፡ ሚካኤል። ወአቡነ፡ ክቡር፡ ሊቀ፡ ጳጳሳት፡ አባ፡ ማርቆስ፡ ከመ፡ ይዕቀብ፡ ሕይወቶሙ። ወያጽንዖሙ፡ ዲበ፡ መናብርቲሆሙ፡ ዓመታተ፡ ብዙኃ፡ ወአዝማነ፡ ዘበሰላም፡ ወይስረይ፡ ለነ፡ ኃጣውኢነ። Discussion: Abunä Mika’el and Abuna Marqos IV (ca. 1660) The only scenario in which the names of the two Abunas line up is to assume that they are the Patriarch of Alexandria Mark VI (1645–60) and the Ethiopian Metropolitan Mika’el (d. 1649 EC = 1656/7). The time frame here would be 1645 through 1657. These dates actually fit quite well with the paleography of the manuscript. But, throughout the manuscript King Takla Haymanot is mentioned. The closest emperor by that name, Takla Haymanot I, reigned 1706–08. The dates of the only other Emperor Takla Haymanot are even later, between 1769 and 77.

The guarantor was Lanǝt Bǝyä. All of the cantors were witnesses. 2) In the year of John (the Evangelist) in the reign of King Yoḥannǝs (probably III 1840–51), when Gäbrä Hǝywät was appointed Imperial Priest, when Priest Gäbrä Mika’el was Keeper of the Treasury of the church, the three [men] Bätǝre, Gäbru, and Ǝšetu bought [a parcel of land in] Gortäse Wantǝn for three silver coins [lit. birr]. The buyer was Mǝlǝlǝt Gäbrä Śǝllase. The guarantor was Dorǝta’os Wärqe. All of the witnesses were cantors.
