ማር፡ ገላውዴዎስ፡ ዘነግሠ፡ በኢትዮጵያ፡ ዓባይ፡ እምጽንፋ፡ እስከ፡ ጽንፋ፡ ‘Mar Gälawdewos who reigned in the greater Ethiopia from border to borderen’ 3 § 3 (ed.), 6 § 3 (tr.) (‘The chronicler bestows the title ማር (Mar ) for the king throughout the text particularly when he needs to sanctify the king as a saint. The term ማር originates from the Syriac and it means ‘Lord’. 163; 57; 12; ; 392. It has also been designated for two successors of Gälawdewos, King Minas and King Śärṣä Dǝngǝl. However, the chroniclers of these two kings employed this title very rarely for their respective kings. Cf. 4 (ed.), 6 (tr.); 17 (ed.); 37 (tr.).’ 3 n. 2)
