Origin
Original Location: Tāḥtāy Rubā Māryām↗
Patriarch of Alexandria John (Yoḥannǝs) (check the viewer7v l.1) and King ʾIyāsu (check the viewer7v l.5) are mentioned in Text I. Hence, the book may be dated either to the time of Patriarch John XVI (1676-1718) and King ʾIyasu I (1682-1706) or to the time of John XVII (1727-45) and ʾIyasu II (1730-55). The latter dating is more probable since a scribe called Zawalda Māryām was active around mid-18th century.Provenance
Owned by Mazgaba Śǝllāse, Walatta Hāymānot and Walatta Giyorgis (s. Additio 3). The reference to the monastery Gunda Gunde in Additio 1 hints to the possible identification of Mazgaba Śǝllāse as the head of that monastery in the second half of the 17th cent. (s. EAE III).

ʾAsmāt-prayer against demons (?).
Text in Gǝʿǝz
Text in Amharic
The note is written in Gǝʿǝz, with some Amharic words, probably not much later than the main text. It mentions "ʾasmat of Gʷǝdägʷǝdi", apparently referring to the monastery Gunda Gunde. The handwriting is rather fine (slender letters with big loops) but slightly uneven (due to the lack of ruling). The hand is most probably the same as hand b. A portion of the text on the right side of is difficult to read. -

Condition
A part of the front board, the back board and the spine cover are missing. Some fols. are stained with water and damaged by insects or mice. Bifolios 67-75 and 68-76 are broken along the fold. The bottom right corner of check the viewer47 is of irregular shape; probably it is a part of a hole of considerable size. check the viewer55 is originally trimmed in the upper and mid right part, probably along a hole and a previous cut. check the viewer149 is originally trimmed in the upper part. Holes are carefully amended on check the viewer74 , 165, 166.
Binding
Two wooden boards, but only a piece of the front wooden board (about 30%) has been preserved. Along the right edge holes are visible, probably used for attaching the missing part of the board. One pair of sewing stations (quires I-X with single thread, quires XI-B with a pair of single thread).
Binding decoration
Small holes near the head and tail of the codex visible in the centre fold of some quires (e.g., V, XII; XIII, XV), occasionally with short threads (e.g., X, XVI). The binding of the text block and its attachment to the boards were several times crudely repaired by means of threads and strings made of various textiles. ff. 3, 57 and 58 are crudely attached to the quires.
