Origin
1800-2006
Acquisition
According to the handwritten account placed inside the manuscript, it was brought to the monastery in September 2006 by a young man who told the monks that about five months earlier, a man from Saudi Arabia whose acquaintance he had made previously in Sharm el-Sheikh informed him that he had bought a Christian book for c. 30.000 LE to trade in it (having been informed that it dated from the 13th-14th century, and not being able to identify the language in which it was written). The Saudi then repeatedly dreamt that a figure clad in a black garment with crosses asked him to return the manuscript to its owners. He then sent the manuscript with DHL to his acquaintance, the young man in Sharm el-Sheikh, asking him to hand it over to the bishop of St Catherine or his deputy. The monastery gratefully accepted the manuscript. Shortly afterwards, the Saudi wished to be returned the manuscript and sent the young man to retrieve it from the monastery. The monastery handed the manuscript back, but the Saudi then again had dreams in which the same figure asked him to return the manuscript to its owners, so it was once more handed over to the monastery, where it remains.
