He was born at Piedmont↗ in 1872.
Period of Activity
He was one of the most prominent Ethiopianists of the 20th century. He started his career as a civil servant in the Treasury of the Italian government. He represented the Treasury in Paris↗ in the years 1908-1910 and as a financial expert attended international conferences. In 1914, he became the Secretary-General in the Italian Administration. A decade later, he was named Councillor of the State. From1920-1949, he held the chair of History and Languages of Abyssinia in the University of Rome↗ faculity of Humanities, succeeding his teacher Ignazio Guidi↗ . Besides his official engagements as a civil servant, he profoundly developed his scientific work in the field of the humanities. He won an important place in editing of Ethiopic texts.
