General description
An author portrait, showing one of the four Evangelists (Matthew↗ ; Mark↗ ; Luke↗ ; John↗ ), typically placed opposite to the beginning of his text. As in other traditions, the Evangelists perform a variety of actions, such as holding or writing the copy of their Gospel↗ . The two main typologies attested in the Ethiopian tradition are: ① Type 1 ⇨ The Evangelist is depicted in a seated position. ② Type 2 ⇨ The Evangelist is depicted in a standing position.
