Palaeography
Hand 1
Script: Ethiopic
mediocre, careful, irregularThe handwriting is characterized by upright to slightly left-sloping letters, uneven and not uniform (also number of the lines pro page is not constant), at times creating an impression of more than hands involved in writing. In check the viewer61r , 71vb, 72va, the handwriting appears different: broader strokes, less carefully executed with a different tone of black ink. Some distinct features: - መ (esp. in the 1st and 2nd orders) has loops of triangular shape, with the left loop more sharply pointed - the upper horizontal strokes of some letters (e.g., መ ሠ በ) are uniformly slanted to the left - some letters have rounded upper strokes, e.g., the letter ገ in the 6th order - the 6th order marker of ጰ is set up on the vertical stroke at the top and oriented to the left (e.g., check the viewer11ra l.24, 45va l.19) - the 6th order marker of the letter የ has a very short and downwards oriented left part, and a long, upwards oriented right part (e.g., check the viewer45vb l.5); in the 4th order, the marker is diagonal and going down below the ruling (e.g., check the viewer45vb l.7); the letters ኀ and ቀ in the 4th order show the same feature - the loop marking the 7th order of letter ቀ is very pronounced, broad and elevates above other signs - ፲ appears occasionally in the form with a ring attached to the right side through a horizontal stroke (check the viewer135vb l.7).
Ink: Black; red
Rubrication: A few lines alternating with black lines in the incipit page of Texts I, II and III; the incipit of each text within Text I and sometimes one or two lines of the account proper; one or two lines in the incipit of each miracle in Text-II; trinitarian formula; Ethiopic numerals or their elements; elements of the punctuation signs and of coronis signs.
