He was one of the two secretaries of ʾaṣe role: title ↗ . In the court of ʾaṣe role: title ↗ , he was an indispensable assistant to the emperor. While Ṣaḥāfe tǝʾǝzāz role: title ↗ was in charge of the home affairs and the correspondence in Amharic, Yosef thanks to his knowledge of French, was responsible for relation with foreigners and served Mǝnilǝk↗ as a kind of foreign secretary. In 1889, he was involved in the translation of the Amharic version of Italo-Ethiopian Treaty of Friendship and Commerce.
Death
He died at Ǝnṭoṭṭo↗ in 1900.
