Binding
Parchment. The cover appears to have been made off the book and attached not in the usual bridle attachment of the chain stitches to the boards. The boards were prepared to receive attachment; holes for the bridle attachment are visible on the inside. However, the orientation of the holes is backwards from the usual. Likewise, the holes have no strings in them and are oriented backwards: the holes come through the side edge and come out the inside cover. The cover is attached to the quires by sewing string through the gutter of the quires and through the spine of the cover. A line of stitches is visible at both head and tail of the spine and look very much like the stitches that hold head and tail pieces in place. However there are no head and tail pieces.
