Schema specification

<roleName> can only have a set number of values for type. It should occur always within a <persName> with proper identification, unless the identification is not possible. Beta maṣāḥǝft Guidelines

tei:roleName/@type .='office' and parent::tei:persName
the value office for the attribute type should be used only when this is not in a persName. Use title instead.

Attibutes list

These are fuzzy categories, inherited from the EAe. In volume 5, pages 580–590 a list of titles, ranks and functions can be found.

This is a closed list of allowed values

value definition
title title is used when addressing a person, particularly an office holder (e.g. ʾabbā, wayzaro, daǧǧāzmačč, ʾabuna), and is to be used only within a persName, since names of offices and office holders can overlap.
office name of an office within an institution (e.g. Metropolitan, daǧǧāzmāčč, king, governor ), to be used only when not inside a persName, since names of offices and office holders can overlap
function is the task that a particular office holder is assigned to accomplish or a word referring to its duties which is not a title assigned by some authority
rank a position in a hierarchy, particularly military, e.g. colonel
