… This note states that the Ms. was completed during the month of Sane, in the 2nd week before Easter, the “Week za-Niqodimos” (cp. Fritsch, 2011, pp. 206-210). The year is not specified. About the scribe’s mention, it is not clear whether Albasṭros is his real name or a nickname. The names of the commissioner and of the tabot to which this book belongs are erased. The note seems written in a more faded ink.

Palaeography
Hand 1
Scribe: Albāsṭros scribe
Script: Ethiopic
The handwriting is characterized by thick, big, rounded and right-slowing letters. The quality of the script appears irregular (cp., e.g., check the viewer22r , 25v, 101r). It is not sure if more than one hand was involved in the writing. Some distinctive features: - the upper horizontal strokes of some letters (e.g., መ ሠ በ) are slightly slanted to the left; - the letter መ, in the 1st and 2nd orders, has the right loop which does not rest on the ruled line; - some letters have hairlines at the top (e.g., ን, ጸ, ይ, ገ); - ፪ is with the loop at the bottom open (e.g, check the viewer18va ); - ፮ is with the loop open, looking like “compressed” (s. the sixth hour of the days: e.g., check the viewer103va , 162vc); - x-cross with dashes is used several times, especially at the end of a book title or heading of texts (e.g., check the viewer98rb , 100ra).
Ink: Black; red (brilliant vermillion; strong vermillion for the name Za-Manfas Qǝddus on check the viewer41vb )
Rubrication: Holy names. Names of the king and commissioner. A few lines alternating with black lines in the incipit page of Text I-1 and in the incipit page of the section for the day hours of Friday (in Text I-8); headings and incipits of the texts, their sections and subsections; titles of the Biblical books and other works; names of Hebrew letters in Text I-8; directives for the ministers in Texts I-7and I-9; initial words or letters in “Tǝmhǝrta ḫǝbuʾāt” (Text I-8); the words: yǝbe, yǝtaragʷǝm and yǝbe matargʷǝm in Text I-8. Elements of the punctuation signs, of Ethiopic numerals and of the text dividers. - In some parts of the text, the rubrication is missing (s. the punctuations), looking like it has not been completed: check the viewer98v-99r , check the viewer157v-162r .
Date: Early 19th century (?)
Albāsṭros scribe is mentioned as the scribe in the colophon and in Additio 1. Early 19th century (?)Abbreviations
