Incipit ( ):
Explicit ( ):
In the “tituli” for the Gospel of John there is a mistake in chapter numbering: ncheck the viewer10 is followed by ncheck the viewer20 , so that the total number of the chapters as written by the scribe is 29. For details concerning the traditional introduction texts s. R.W. COWLEY, "New Testament Introduction in the Andemta Commentary Tradition", Ostkirchliche Studien 26, 1977, 144-92 ; R. ZUURMOND, Novum Testamentum Aethiopice: the Synoptic Gospels, Part I: General Introduction, Part II: Edition of the Gospel of Mark, Stuttgart, 1989 (AeF 27), 6-36. He who steals it or erases (its text) or takes it out of this church of the country of Māryām shall be excommunicated by the authority of Peter and Paul. Written in red ink; the hand appears to be the same as the one that executed rubrication. One name is washed out. The names connected with the church of Makān Māryām were added in pencil later, replacing the name ካስዋ፡ (an alternative appellation of the monastery of Gunda Gunde) written originally. By substituting the name of Kaswa with the name of Makān the scribe created a contradiction in the note. ʾAbuna Mazgaba Śǝllāse was the abbot of Gunda Gunde monastery in the second half of the 17th – beginning of the 18th cent. -
