Origin
This manuscript was copied during the reign of Iyāsu I, most probably for / by the clergy of the church of Dabra Berhān Sellāsē in Gondar.
1682-1706 (context)Provenance
This manuscript might have been possessed by the church of Madḫāne Alam↗ in Gondar (fol. 1, marginal note). It has been looted by King Tēwodros (1855-68) and ended up in his fortress in Maqdālā↗ , where the British army looted it in 1868. It was then given to the British Library (see the stamp on the guardleaf: "Presented by the Secretary of State for India. Aug. 1868").
Acquisition
King Yohannes (1871-89) asked Queen Victoria to have this manuscript back to Ethiopia. The transfer was done in 1872 (see fol. check the viewer163v : « This volume was returned to the King of Ethiopia by order of the Trustees of the British Museum↗ - dated Dec. 14 1872. J. Winter Jones , Principal Librarian »). The manuscript stayed in the Ethiopian royal collection as it was stored in Enṭoṭṭo Raguēl↗ , founded by King Mǝnilǝk , when it was microfilmed by the EMML↗ project in 1974.
